A Romantic Malibu Proposal at El Matador Beach
There’s something incredibly special about a proposal at El Matador State Beach in Malibu — dramatic cliffs, golden sand, and the Pacific Ocean creating the perfect California backdrop.
For this proposal, we planned everything around sunset, when the light becomes soft, warm, and beautifully cinematic. The cliffs and rock formations catch the last light of the day, creating that romantic glow that makes sunset my favorite time for proposals here.
One important thing to know: a permit is required for professional photography at El Matador State Beach, so it’s best to take care of the permit ahead of time and plan your session accordingly.
If you’re planning a surprise proposal in Malibu, I’d recommend starting about 45-60 minutes before sunset. This gives us time to capture the location, the proposal itself, and a few relaxed portraits afterward while the light continues to change.
El Matador is one of those places where you really don’t need much else, just the ocean, beautiful light, and the person you love.
